When Spyder finally caught up with them it was after 7 pm, and they were stood outside a three storey building in a commercial area, though tucked somewhat out of the way. The building was a shop with the unusual title of ‘Geek Valhalla’. A few backlights were on wherein they could see shelves lined with books (the old fashioned kind),, collectables, card games, just plain games, comics, metal figures and all kinds of odd stuff. Jonas was explaining.
“I knew Marvin back in the Day – he didn’t have the shop then though. He ran -still does in fact – his e zine, and made a lot of money building specialist computers for tekkie geeks.”
“What sort of computers?” asked Jake.
“I never asked really” said Jonas. “But the clients were the sort who put Spyder and Doc -no offence Doc -well in the shade in terms of what they could do with one. Hackers I would guess, and some of them fairly hard bitten types.”
“Shop is closed” pointed out Doc. Orlov.
“He said there was a side entrance leading up to the first floor. Ah. here it is.” He pressed a buzzer and after a few words the door opened. Inside was a starwell leading up, with various notices pinned up. The stairwell opened into a small landings, and light flooded from a larger room.
Inside was a large room containing about forty people, scattered around a dozen large tables covered with model terrain, and dozens of small figures and vehicles, some of them wearing flared vacc suits Jake noted.
The people were an odd assortment. All male (except possibly for one), with a preponderance of old combat jackets, straggly hair, and grubby heavy metal T shirts hanging dangerously over vast beer bellies. One of them had wild blonde hair, eccenteric shorts (Spyder didn’t think so), and what appeared to be a large Pirate Hat, with an unusual skull and crossbones design which Jonas later explained as ‘Orky’.
“Hey!” muttered one of the crowd, pointing at Doc. Orlov. “Is that a…………girl?”
